หลวงปู่หมุน ฐิตสีโล เกิดในสกุล “ศรีสงคราม” หรือ “แก้วปักปิ่น” ถือกำเนิดเมื่อ วันพฤหัสบดี เดือน 5 ปีชวด พ.ศ. 2437 ณ บ้านจาน อ.กันทรารมย์ จังหวัดศรีสะเกษ บิดา ชื่อ "ดี" มารดาชื่อ "อั๊ว" มีอาชีพทำไร่ทำนา เป็นเด็กยากจน แต่มีสติปัญญาเฉลียวฉลาด ต่อมาบิดามารดาเห็นแววทางด้านพระพุทธศาสนา จึงให้บรรพชาเป็นสามเณรเมื่ออายุ 14 ปี และนำไปฝากกับพระอาจารย์สีดาเจ้าอาวาสวัดบ้านจาน ซึ่งเป็นพระที่เชี่ยวชาญด้านกรรมฐานและมีวิชาอาคมที่เก่งมาก
ท่านบวขเมื่ออายุได้ 23 ปี พ.ศ.2460 ได้เข้าอุปสมบทหมู่จำนวน 9 รูป โดยหลวงปู่เป็นรูปที่ 9 โดยมีโยมลุงของท่านเป็นเจ้าภาพ โดยมีหลวงพ่อสีดา เป็นพระอุปัชฌาย์ หลวงพ่อเพ็งเป็นพระอนุสาวนาจารย์และหลวงพ่อผุยเป็นพระกรรมวาจาจารย์ ได้รับรับฉายาว่า "ฐิตสีโล" แปลว่า "ผู้มีศีลตั้งมั่น" จากนั้นได้ศึกษาวิชาความรู้จากครูบาอาจารย์ต่าง ๆ ในแถบนั้นเป็นเวลา 4 ปี ก่อนออกแสวงหาครูบาอาจารย์อื่น ๆ เพื่อศึกษาคันธธุระและวิปัสสนาธุระในชั้นที่สูง ๆ ขึ้นไป
ปี พ.ศ.2464 หลวงปู่หมุนเริ่มออกศึกษาแสวงหาประสบการณ์โดยได้ร่ำเรียนทั้งเวทย์วิทยาและสมถกรรมฐานจากครูบาอาจารย์หลายสำนัก ศึกษาวิชาอาคมที่ สำนักตักศิลาแห่งบ้านจิกใหญ่ อ.พิบูลมังสาหาร จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี กระทั่งศึกษาคัมภีร์มหาพุทธาคมอันเป็นแม่บทของคัมภีร์ปถมัง คัมภีร์อิทธิเจ คัมภีร์มหาราช คัมภีร์ตรีนิสิงเห ซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานแห่งอำนาจจิต โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งตำราพิชัยสงคราม เช่น คัมภีร์นิติประกาศิต คัมภีร์ธนูรเวทว่าด้วยการแต่งเครื่องครอบมนตร์ในสงคราม เป็นต้น
. วันที่ 11 มี.ค.2546 เวลา 07.30 น หลวงปู่หมุน ฐิตสีโล พระอมตะเถระ 5 แผ่นดิน แห่งวัดบ้านจาน อ. กันทรารมย์ จ.ศรีสะเกษ มรณภาพลงอย่างสงบบนกุฎี สิริอายุ 109 ปี 86 พรรษา
LP.Moon Thitasilo was born on May, Thursday, 1894, at Ban Jan, Kantararom, Sri Saket. He was born in "Sri Songkram" or "Kaew Pak Pin" family. His father name is "Dee", his mother name is "Ua". His family members were just farmers and poor, but he was very clever. His father knew that he was good at Buddhism then the father let him ordained as a neophyte when he 14. He was studying Buddhism with LP.Sida, the abbot of Ban Jan Temple, who was very good at meditation and had very powerful magic. In year 1917, he was 23 years old and ordained as a monk by LP.Sida. The Pali nickname given by LP.Sida is "Thitasilo" which means "The Lawful Person" and studied with many LP. in the area for 4 years. In year 1921, LP.Moon went further to other provinces, the adventure was very hard and dangerous, he had to walk on foot, faced with the forest's ghosts and any other beasts. He did not give up until he reached Taksila Academy of Ban Jik Yai, Piboonmangsahan, Ubon Ratchathani Province for studied Maha Buddhakom Tome, which was the base of Patamang Tome, Itthijay Tome, Maharat Tome and Trinisinghe Tome. The base of mental power Tome especially the book of Pichai Songkram such as Nitiprakasith Tome, Thanurawet Tome, about consecrating magical armors in the time of war.
He studied the Phaya Tao (Tuttle) knowledge from LP Yon of Wat Ban Kong Yai, Ratchaburi Province. Thereafter, he was very successful in this Wicha (Magical Knowledge) and consecrated the First Phayatao Amulet in 1973. The Phaya Tao Amulet helps in Overcoming Obstacles, Protection from Danger, Wealth Fetcher, Prosperity, Metta, Success and Business Enhancements. Hence, the Phaya Tao became the symbol of LP Liew.
n year 1932-1939, after LP.Moon finished his study from varies academy, he traveled into the woods, passed the backcountries area with bare feet, to Bangkok. He visited and stayed at Thep Thidaram Temple for studied until he finished both Parian 5 and Mulgadjaiyana Sut Tome. He also stayed at Sutat Temple and studied some skills from LP.Pae(Buddhist Pope of Thailand), then stayed at Arunratchawararam Temple to study some skills from LP.Pimoltham. LP.Moon taught Mulgadjaiyana Sut Tome (Pure Pali) for many years before followed LP.Thong Dee wandering to the north into Myanmar for 1 year. After the journey to the north, he walked on foot to the south to stay with LP.Tim of Chang hai Temple for practicing meditation and exchanged magical skills with LP.Tim for about a year before went to Malaysia. Back to Thailand again, he went to study skills from Father Klai Wajasith of Suan Khan Temple, Nakhon Srithammarat Province, and got Chan Mark Med Yai as a relic from Father Klai, and went back to the northeast of Thailand. LP.Moon met up with LP.Si Chantasiri in the forest near Nong Kai Province and studied Lob Phong Si skill from LP.Si which was inherited from Somdej Buddhajan To of Rakang Kositaram Temple. He also met up with LP.Man near Ubon Ratchathani Province and studied higher meditation, but he did not join the group because he was in Mahayan Side (like Catholic and Protestant in Christian).
At 7.30 a.m. on March 11, 2003, LP.Moon Thitasilo, the 5 age immortal monk of Ban Jan Temple, Kantararom District, Sri Saket Province, had passed away quietly in the Buddhist monk house, aged 109 years, and 86 years in Buddhist monkhood. Phra Maha Pin, age 87, the abbot of Ban Jan Temple, great grandson of LP.Moon said that "I wasn't at the temple that day because I went to the local area near the temple. LP.Moon stayed with Mr.Amnouy Keawon, his great grandson, he was quiet after drinking his beverage. There was no sign of the dying, but LP.Moon always said that he wanted to go to Nongkai Province, Pak Sei at Ubon Ratchathani Province and cross to Laos to Wen Sai Temple, the temple of Somdej Loon of Nakhon Jampasak, to pay respect to his teachers. He said he wanted to come back before Maha Pagoda universary festival on April 12-13-14, 2003. There will be molding main Buddha Statue ceremony and LP.Moon statue at the festival along with Buddhapisek amulets of immortal monk. I thought that was just a normal word because LP.Moon always told me that his teachers invited him to Nirvana so many times, but he wanted to meet with people who respected in him first.
